About the role

This position will be responsible for supporting the activities of the Surgical Audits, including the Australian and New Zealand Audit of Surgical Mortality (ANZASM). ANZASM consists of an independent peer review process for evaluating the quality of surgical care in patient mortality. The audits are a collaboration between the state and territory Governments’ Departments of Health, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG), the state and territory Anaesthetic Mortality Committees and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

As a self-starter with initiative, you will be responsible for analysing data collected from hospitals and surgeons. This will also include follow-up of surveys, evaluations of feedback and reporting. You will also be required to liaise with private hospital Chief Executives, Public Hospital and Health Services (HHS) Chief Executive Officers, Directors of Surgery, safety and quality departments and surgeons. You will be required to prepare reports/booklets, surveys, manuscripts, and when necessary, undertake literature reviews for ANZASM. You will be required to analyse complex datasets and survey results. You will be required to work with the Surgical Audit Manager to facilitate research with Fellows, academics, collaborators, and students. With excellent time management and communication skills, you will be required to support the Surgical Audit Manager and assist other audit staff in day-to-day activities. You will have a relevant tertiary qualification (BSc Honours) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience working in a research environment. You will be required to brief the manager on progress and provide advice on relevant issues.

The location for this position is flexible. 

About you

As the ideal candidate you will have:

  • BSc (Hons) or equivalent health degree
  • The ability to use statistical programs such as STATA, SPSS or R to analyse and interpret large and complex datasets.
  • Exceptional organisation skills with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, solve problems and perform tasks in a timely and efficient manner
  • Excellent attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to review and understand complex written material in order to produce clear, concise and coherent written reports and correspondence
  • A warm, positive and professional approach and have the written and oral communication skills required to adapt and negotiate in a flexible and rapidly changing environment
  • A proven track record in developing strong relationships with stakeholders and have the ability to build productive relationships with a wider range of internal and external stakeholders
