About the Role:

Whitehaven’s commitment to sustainability and regulatory compliance drives our operations. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Group Superintendent - Approvals to join our Approvals Team based in the picturesque North-Western NSW town of Gunnedah.

 

No two days will look the same in this role. Whitehaven has a variety of different projects currently, with you being the person responsible for leading and managing the environmental approvals process for our NSW operations. This will also involve supporting the business to obtain environmental approvals for operations in NSW, engaging with regulatory agencies, and overseeing the preparation of environmental impact assessments and other necessary documentation. 

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Monitor changes in environmental legislation and update company policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Lead key assigned aspects of the environmental approvals process from project inception to completion.
  • Support the coordination, preparation and submission of modification applications, environmental impact statements, and other required documentation.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and other key stakeholders to facilitate the approval process and address any concerns or requirements.

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in securing environmental approvals for large-scale mining projects.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and approval processes within NSW.
  • High level of computer literacy and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
