Data Governance/Business Intelligence Analyst

This dual role is responsible for executing data management activities within the Avant Finance business division and using data to gain insights to assist decisions within the organisation. This role focuses on maintaining data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to support the organisation's data governance objectives and developing reports/dashboards to support strategic initiatives.
Key accountabilities:
1. Data Governance
• Discovers/classifies sensitive data and conducts data loss prevention activities
• Conducts data risks and controls self-assessments to identify gaps requiring uplift
• Performs data retention activities including identification and assessment of retention rules applied
• Maintains and ensures compliance to defined data governance metrics
• Identifies and documents data usage and change requirements
• Identifies in-scope data elements, its usage and criticality
• Defines rules for data creation, data use or derivatives of data
• Documents business and technical definitions
• Documents business rules, thresholds and metrics
• Documents reference and master data
• Defines data quality rules and maintains data quality dashboard for reporting
• Champions policies and standards and collaborates across data governance ecosystem to improve practices
2. Data quality management
• Measure data quality based on defined rules by collaborating with system owners
• Manages data quality issues from identification to resolution by collaborating across group data and system stakeholders. Minimises tactical solutions and associated data debts
• Manages and maintains the data catalogue, business glossary and lineage artefacts
3. Data analysis and reporting
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver customized reports.
• Gather, analyse, and interpret complex data sets from various sources.
• Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations using BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
4. Data modelling
• Design and implement data models to support reporting and analytics.
• Optimize data models for performance and scalability.
• Work with IT and data engineering teams to integrate and manage data sources.
5. Collaboration and training
• Work closely with business stakeholders, IT, service providers and data teams to ensure data needs are met.
• Present findings and insights to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
• Provide training and support to users on BI tools and best practices.
• Provide training and support to data users on data governance practices and tools.
• Participate in data stewardship committees or working groups to promote data governance initiatives.
To be successful you will have:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or other related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Strong evidence of professional commitment to maintain currency of technical knowledge and skills
• Certification in BI and/or data governance and/or data management
• Key business process knowledge and experience in financial services industry
• 3+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis or similar role
• Experience with data governance and data quality management practices
• Experience with Salesforce (CRM and Marketing Automation)
• Experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau or QlikView.
• Mature and self-motivated professional able to work in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
• Ability to relate the goals of IT service delivery to business goals.
• A focus on customer satisfaction and high-quality service delivery, with strong interpersonal skills and responsiveness.
• Adherence to IT policies and processes to ensure consistent quality of service.
