The program 

 

The Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) offers vital support to refugees and humanitarian entrants settling in Australia, including one-on-one casework, basic household goods, orientation and housing, employment, or transport support. It also includes practical support like helping our client’s link with Centrelink, Medicare, schools, and other local services through using your bilingual language skills. Current client languages include, but are not limited to:  Swahili, Kinyarawanda, Kinyamulenge, Kirundi, Ukrainian, Russian, Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Hazari, Burmese, Kurdish, Kurmanji and French.

 

The opportunity 

 

HSP volunteers are friendly, accepting, and flexible individuals, who are motivated to support the learning and comfortable settlement of newly arrived refugees. All the areas within the program are supported by the Red Cross caseworkers and Community Navigator.
 

For this role you will need good cross-cultural communication skills and the ability to relate to and empathise with a broad range of people, including those with different lived experiences, abilities, and cultures.

 

Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support, and access to other opportunities within the world’s largest humanitarian network.

HSP volunteers are a vital connection between refugees and their new communities. As part of the Humanitarian Settlement Program, you will contribute to creating a friendly and inclusive environment that will help refugees feel welcome. Your impact will be tangible, and you will see your contribution making a different to someone’s life.

 

 

Application requirements

 

For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, organised through RedCross and renewed every 5 years.

To submit this application, you will need to upload a recent copy of your CV and also provide details for two professional references. 

The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working with Children Check or Working with Vulnerable People Check depending on your State/Territory.  Red Cross can assist you to apply for this check.
